Founded in 2004 by a visionary Malaysian entrepreneur, our company was established with a bold mission—to bring the unparalleled richness of Laotian ancient tea trees to the world. With a deep appreciation for tea craftsmanship and a commitment to sustainable agriculture, our founder saw the untapped potential of Phongsaly’s centuries-old, free-growing tea trees and transformed them into a premium offering for global markets. As of today, we have not only sold our teas in Laos, but also exported them to various countries worldwide, such as China, Russia, Germany, Thailand and Malaysia amongst others.

Rooted in the rich heritage of Laos, we craft authentic teas using ancient tea trees and pristine environments untouched by modern pollution.​ Our mission is to connect tea lovers around the globe with the unique flavors of Laotian tea, while uplifting local communities and promoting a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle.

The Origins of Our Brand

Derived from the Lao Kingdom of Lan Xang Hom Khao, the name bears the meaning of “Million Elephants and White Parasols.” The ancient tea trees also date back to this time period, and they have also been forgotten as time flies just like the Lan Xang kingdom. Lane Xang’s roots trace back to Yunnan and the Phongsaly region of Laos, where tea culture has flourished for millennia. Inspired by the rich heritage of the ancient Yinshi Protectorate and its timeless connection to tea, Lane Xang blends history with modern expertise, weaving a tale of tradition and innovation in every cup.

Now, Lane Xang is a brand dedicated to promoting Lao tea culture by combining heritage with innovation, offering people a natural and healthy tea-drinking experience. Focused on reviving the forgotten treasures of Lao tea culture, Lane Xang strives to restore this cultural gem to its former glory.

Why Lane Xang is Established

High in the lush mountains of Phongsaly, where ancient tea trees stand as silent witnesses to history, Lane Xang found its purpose. Deeply moved by the beauty of these trees and the struggles of the local villagers, our founder Elena Phor, who's from Malaysia, embarked on a mission to create change. Hence, our journey began with a mission to revive the forgotten pearls of Laotian tea culture. Established to bring the goodness of Laotian tea to the world, Lane Xang honors the legacy of ancient tea trees that date back to the kingdom’s era.

In the present day, we are partnering with local government, which made Lane Xang breathed new life into ancient tea plantations, providing sustainable incomes and development opportunities to over 12,000 tea farmers. Each leaf now tells a story of hope, resilience, and transformation.​ Today, we blend tradition with modernity, preserving the spirit of Lan Xang while crafting teas that cater to the needs of contemporary tea lovers.
